The Front Range corridor is a vibrant, growing region and the work of the Clean Cities coalitions is more important than ever. With the population of the region expected to increase to nearly 6 million by 2025, we must act now to preserve and enjoy our high quality of life and clean, breathable air. Decreasing petroleum use in the transportation sector is an effective next step: the transportation sector presently utilizes ~30% of the U.S. total energy supply and is responsible for ~60% of greenhouse gas emissions. Transitioning to cleaner-burning and alternative fuels can dramatically reduce our dependence of foreign oil and positively impact air quality in the region. The use of alternative and renewable fuel vehicles is a publicly visible sign of an organization’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
